RACA is part of a national programme called Aimhigher more - a project aiming to address widening participation in higher and further education. RACA supports increasing access to university or college education for those groups who have difficulty, or who traditionally may not have considered post-16 education.

• Build strategic partnerships with Local Education Authorities and FE/HE institutions
• Identify the schools and pupils who will benefit
• Identify an artform which will engage the pupils
• Partner them with the region's best participatory artists to lead a long-term programme of workshops
• Organise external exhibitions and performances opportunities for a taste of professional experience
• Arrange learning mentors for the pupils from local HE & FE colleges
• Arrange visits to colleges to help raise pupils’ aspirations

• Strong partnerships: ensuring that everyone is fully committed to the project
• A long-term view: recognising that real differences can be made by sustained work
• Artistic team: appointing artists who specialise in participatory work
• Carefully choosing the artists who have the ‘best fit’ for the pupils
• Ensuring that artists follow statutory requirements and relevant Codes of Practice
• Scale: bringing multiple schools’ pupils together to share experiences and practice
• Presenting large-scale events with the ‘wow’ factor (ie. Youth Arts Festival more)
